Volkswagen Thermostat

Achieve engine cool with a Volkswagen Thermostat

During combustion, only 30 percent of the fuel is converted to mechanical energy, while the bulk of it is converted to heat. To prevent overheating, the Volkswagen cooling system disperses the heat and one way of doing this is to introduce coolant to the engine. But the engine works best at constant high temperatures and has to warm up quickly, so the flow of the coolant must be regulated--a job which is performed by the Volkswagen thermostat.

The Volkswagen thermostat is a small, temperature-sensitive spring valve around 2 inches in length that controls the cooling system of the Volkswagen engine. You can find most Volkswagen thermostats located on top of the engine, in the outlet going to the radiator, while some are on the bottom, near the radiator hose that goes into the engine. Some Volkswagen thermostats operate based on the temperature of the coolant alone, while others are computer controlled.

When you start your car, the thermostat stays close to allow the engine to warm up. The coolant inside the engine begins to absorb the heat as the engine gets warmer. Without the flow of coolant, your engine will warm up quickly and you conserve fuel. When your engine has reached the optimal temperature range, the Volkswagen thermostat opens up and lets cold coolant in. The hot coolant, meanwhile, are directed back into the radiator to be cooled down before it is pumped back into the engine. This process is maintained - cold coolant going into the engine, hot coolant going out - while you are driving so that engine temperature is kept within the optimal operating range.

The Volkswagen thermostat is an important part of your car's cooling system. If it fails, your Volkswagen's engine overheats and may damage internal engine components that are expensive to replace. The thermostat, however, is very affordable, so it is a wise move to always check and replace old thermostats even if they are still working.
