Volkswagen Pressure Plate : Taking the brunt for a smooth clutch action

The Volkswagen pressure plate is the part of the clutch assembly that applies the pressure to engage or release the clutch from the clutch disk. A pressure plate is a metal-covered plate with a pressure surface, heavy plate springs, and release fingers. It is bolted to the flywheel, with the clutch disc pinned in between.

When the clutch pedal is idle, the plate spring pushes the pressure plate against the clutch disc, which in turn presses against the flywheel. This locks the engine to the transmission input shaft, causing them to spin at the same moment with the same speed. The friction surface is the part of the pressure plate that makes contact with the lining covering the clutch disc. When you depress the clutch pedal, the thrust bearing of the clutch pushes down the release fingers to disengage the pressure plate from the clutch disc and rotational power is interrupted.

Volkswagen pressure plates can either be spring-type or diaphragm type. Many pressure plate problems can sometimes be associated with the working of the clutch kit as a whole. Pressure, continual contact, and heat can damage the Volkswagen pressure plates and cause clutch chatter and slippage. Worn and broken release fingers can contribute to shifting and clutch release problems. When part of the clutch mechanism such as the pressure plate fails, it is good practice to replace the entire clutch kit.

So how does it work? One portion of the cold air intake consists of a high-flow air filter, usually located outside the engine bay or in a cool spot. This is how the cold air intake draws in cooler air. The rest of the cold air intake equipment is dedicated to deliver that cool air to the plenum, keeping it as cold as possible in the process.

To ensure the quality of the burn material, all the air going into the engine passes through the Vo...
