Volkswagen Master Cylinder

Volkswagen Master Cylinder: The Catalyst in Clutch and Brake Systems

Stepping on the brake pedal of the Volkswagen displays the kind of restraint capability that its brake system has. The system provides a 24/7 clamper, making the car better equipped to secure the safety of the passengers. This Volkswagen safety feature is brought to your feet by the Volkswagen Master Cylinder.

The Volkswagen Master Cylinder converts hydraulically the pressure that you input on the brake pedal. As the pedal is depressed, the push rod moves the primary piston in the cylinder forward. This pressure and the force of the primary piston spring drive the second piston. When the forward movement of both pistons causes the primary cups to cover the bypass holes, hydraulic pressure builds up and is transferred to the wheel cylinders. As the pedal retracts, the pistons allow fluid from the reservoir to fill up the chamber, if needed. The Volkswagen Master Cylinder may use varying diameters between the two pistons to increase fluid volume to one set of slave cylinders or the other. There are special sensors inside the Volkswagen Master Cylinder that monitor the level of fluid in the reservoir. This signals the driver if a pressure imbalance develops.

Modern cars like the Volkswagen are equipped with a Master Cylinder that has two circuits, each fitted with two wheels. Internally divided into two sections, each wheel of the Volkswagen Master Cylinder pressurizes a separate hydraulic line. The forward segment applies pressure to the front brakes, and the rearmost segment to the rear brakes. The independent hydraulic lines of the master cylinder are useful in cases when there’s fluid leakage in one of the circuits. In the event of a leak, not all wheels will lose their braking power and the Volkswagen can still be stopped with the brakes working on the other wheels. This results in the balanced braking effect between the front and rear wheel sets.

The Volkswagen Master Cylinder is also used in the clutch assembly. This mechanism is composed of a master cylinder body working as a fluid reservoir tank. The cylinder body houses a piston and a push rod, and connects the inlet port to the slave cylinder at the clutch bell billet of the transmission line. The piston controls a valve seat seated between the inlet and outlet ports. When you step on the clutch pedal, the valve seat facilitates hydraulic fluid flow for easy engaging/disengaging of the clutch.

Hydraulic pressure makes it possible for pedals to operate in varying drive applications. The Volkswagen Master Cylinder makes it possible for the clutch and brake systems to operate even under critical applications, putting the vehicle's rein on your feet.
