Volkswagen Fan Blade

Volkswagen Fan Blade

Your Volkswagen's engine is a machine. And like most machines, it produces heat as by-product. Your car stays cool. Thanks to its cooling system, it is composed primarily of the radiator and radiator fan.

These two devices work together to dissipate the heat from the coolant which goes inside the engine block to absorb excess heat. The radiator provides the frame to spread and easily transfer coolant heat, while the Volkswagen fan blade rotates to push away the heat from the radiator. The radiator fan is especially important when the car is at a stop or moving slowly and there is limited supply of incoming air to cool down the radiator.

There are two different kinds of Volkswagen fans: the mechanical and electric. Older cars use mechanical fans, in which the Volkswagen fan blade is rotated by a belt using the motion of the engine. In most cars today, the radiator fan is controlled either by a temperature-sensitive fan clutch or on-board computer, which automatically engages or disengages the fan as needed. The radiator fan is mounted on either side of the car's radiator, and the Volkswagen fan blades are usually lodged inside a mainframe grille to protect the blades and direct the airflow. The blades are made of either high-grade plastic or steel.

A fan that doesn't draw enough air to the radiator can cause the engine to overheat. Since the radiator fan is also responsible for cooling down the air conditioning thermostat in some cars, it can get uncomfortably warm inside the passenger cabin if it's not working.

Routinely inspect that the Volkswagen fan blades are intact and free of debris, which may hamper air circulation. Turn on your engine and open the hood to see if the fan is working properly. It must be securely fastened to its mount and the belt must be tight on cars with mechanical fans. It is better to replace a defective fan rather than run the risk of your engine overheating.
