Volkswagen Distributor Rotor

Firing up the Volkswagen Engine with a Distributor Rotor

The proof of the pudding, so they say, is in the eating. Speaking of the vaunted Volkswagen power that has won it many a Dakar competition, can there be an amateur rally driver out there who can lose aboard a Volkswagen? It is possible, but fat chance.

Volkswagen boasts of a best in class engine performance. By engine performance, it includes the firing up of power-filled burn material in the combustion chambers. Factors like engine capacity is a given for a car to measure up in a competition, whether off road or in the streets. But, as cars ordinarily have multiple cylinder engines, a streamlined ignition system plays a critical part in engine performance. The Volkswagen ignition system is tasked with firing up the engine’s multiple cylinders in a coordinated sequence. This is done to facilitate a continuous flow of horsepower. High-voltage electric current are transmitted throughout the ignition cables in the system and toward the spark plug in each cylinder head. This current is appropriated by the ignition system part called DISTRIBUTOR ROTOR.

In order that the VOLKSWAGEN DISTRIBUTOR ROTOR can charge appropriately charge each of the ignition cables, it has a speed-governed rotary motion precision designed to make the most out of the Volkswagen engine. A centrifugal advance mechanism drives the rotor as it turns on the camshaft. Made of high-voltage resistant silicone insulation, the VOLKSWAGEN DISTRIBUTOR ROTOR is fail proof against power surges. Due to the high voltage of electric current that it transmits, the most common beef on DISTRIBUTOR ROTOR is the carbon tracking that fouls up the ignition system.

Carbon gunk often builds up on the contact surface between the DISTRIBUTOR ROTOR and its cap. As this is also the spot where ignition cables from the cylinder heads are connected to the DISTRIBUTOR ROTOR, it is critical for this spot to be free from carbon tracking.

Otherwise, misfires may happen and, besides wasting the burn material, can inflict damage on the Volkswagen engine. As a rule, the Volkswagen DISTRIBUTOR ROTOR and other maintenance parts of the ignition system exposed to high-voltage electricity are replaced every 15, 000 miles of ground covered.
